    Intra-Workout Nutrition: When Sipping Actually Helps

    Walk into any gym and you'll see people sipping neon-pink amino drinks between sets. The intra-workout supplement category is enormous β€” and mostly unnecessary. But there are specific situations where intra-workout fueling absolutely improves performance. The trick is knowing which situation you're in.

    The Pre-Meal Determines Everything

    If you ate a protein-containing meal 1–3 hours before training, your bloodstream is already saturated with amino acids. Adding BCAAs or EAAs intra-workout produces no additional muscle protein synthesis signal. The body simply doesn't need more.

    Intra-workout amino acids matter only when:

    • You're training fasted (no protein in 4+ hours)
